FDA's Drug Safety and Risk Management advisory committee voted 19 to 10 in favor of rescheduling hydrocodone Friday (Jan. 25), bringing the agency closer to fulfilling the Drug Enforcement Administration's long-standing request to put the painkiller under tighter controls, should FDA follow the committee's recommendation. DEA has been pushing FDA to recommend rescheduling hydrocodone from Schedule III to the more restrictive Schedule II for nearly a decade, a request that has so far been denied by the agency.
