Senator Gaetz will be on the Radio and in Panama City. We need to call in on the radio and ask why NPs Bills are not being Heard. If possible we need to face him in the public meeting. Please Help with this important public event.
"Neighborhood Day"
Scheduled by Senator Gaetz
Senator Don Gaetz will bring his Senate office to Panama City next Tuesday, July 6. From early morning until evening, the first-term Republican will meet one-on-one with residents, speak with business and civic leaders and local organizations and walk door-to-door.
Neighborhood Day begins at 7:00 a.m. when Gaetz joins radio talk show host Burnie Thompson on The Burnie Thompson Show, 101.1 FM, WYOO. The call-in number is 850-230-TALK to join the conversation on air.
At 8:30 a.m., he will discuss education issues with Bay County Schools officials in the Dean’s Conference Room at the FSU-PC campus located at 4750 Collegiate Drive in Panama City.
From 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and again from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Gaetz will bring his Senate office to First United Methodist Church, located at 903 E. 4th Street in Panama City. There, he'll meet individually with Panama City citizens. As he has done during similar “Neighborhood Days” over the past four years, Gaetz just wants to listen to whatever is on citizens' minds. Individuals having problems with state agencies are also invited to stop by. Constituents don't need an appointment, but can drop in at the church and have a cup of coffee with their senator. However, if a specific time is desired, call 1-(866)-450-4DON toll-free from anywhere in Florida.
“The oil spill in the Gulf is everyone’s number one concern,” Gaetz said. “I’m hoping to learn what folks think about proposals to reduce property taxes for affected properties and other ways the state can help if there is a special session of the Legislature.”
In addition to the oil spill issue, Gaetz says he’s interested in citizens’ views on bills the Legislature passed this year and wants some first-hand advice from constituents about potential future legislation.
The senator is scheduled to meet with the Bay County Chamber of Commerce Board and Government Affairs Committee at 12:15 p.m. There he’ll share details of the “Jobs for Florida” economic development package he sponsored and which was recently signed into law. The Chamber is located at 235 West 5th Street in downtown Panama City.
Gaetz will also fit in a visit with staff and volunteers at Gulf Coast Medical Center, located on West 23rd Street.
Directly following his afternoon office hours at First United Methodist, Senator Gaetz will meet with veterans at VFW Post 8205, located at 735 S. Highway 22 A in Panama City. Gaetz joined in sponsoring several bills during the past session which assist military families and veterans.
In the late afternoon and evening, Gaetz will walk door-to-door in Panama City to meet with residents in their own homes. Before and after his 2006 election to the Senate, Gaetz has knocked on over 25,000 doors in Northwest Florida.
“Neighborhood Day” will wrap up with the senator appearing on “News View” with host and former Panama City Beach Mayor Lee Sullivan. Viewers can tune in to WPGX Fox 28 at 9:00 p.m. to watch a conversation between Gaetz and Sullivan.
"The best ideas don't come from Washington or Tallahassee. All too often that's where the problems are," Gaetz said. "I learn so much from talking with people on their own doorsteps and sitting at their kitchen tables."
Gaetz was elected to the Senate in 2006 following six years as Superintendent of Schools in Okaloosa County. Previously, he served on the Okaloosa County school board and was the first town chairman of Seaside in Walton County. The Senate district he represents in Tallahassee includes Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton and Bay counties.
