Dear Representative____________

Please support HB 9 allowing Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) to sign certificates of involuntary examinations under the Baker Act for patients who are suicidal or homicidal.

NPs and PAs are educated and trained to evaluate the mental health of patients and treat them. They are required by laws to protect the public from homicidal persons and to protect the patient who is suicidal from harming themselves.

This law allows for patients to be admitted for up to 72 hours and evaluated by a licensed physician or psychologist in order to protect themselves and or the public from harm.

Thank you
