Dr. Mai Kung Testifies for ARNPs in Tallhassee
Posted almost 15 years ago by Stanley F Whittaker
CAP-PAC member Mai Kung testified on our behalf, Wednesday at the public hearing on Medicaid. She testified that only 5% of physicians in Florida take Medicaid and many counties do not have a Medicaid physician provider.
These same counties have Advanced Practice Registered Nurse providers who could provide primary care to these patients if restrictions to APRN practice were lifted.
Dr. Kung discussed the legislative barriers to APRNs providing care including their inability to prescribe controlled substances, sign Baker Act papers, and to sign death certificates.
We wish to thank Dr. Kung for her hard work and efforts. Dr. Kung had to rearrange her teaching schedule to be able to be at the capitol for the entire day. We also wish to thank our FNA colleague and FNA lobbyist Anna Small for her invited testimony early in the day.
National Public Radio broadcast on Advanced Practice Nurses
NPR discussion on the IOM report on "The Future of Nursing". Listen to comments by one of the IOM authors and other health care providers on how APRNs can increase access to care while achieving high quality outcomes.
