Nurse-Managed Health Clinics in Pennsylvania Receive NCQA Recognition
Posted over 14 years ago by Stanley F Whittaker
Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to share with you news of a recent a policy change made by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). Eight nurse-managed health clinics (NMHCs) in the Pennsylvania recently received notice that they will be the first to benefit from the new policy change—NCQA's recognition and certification of nurse-managed health clinics as Patient-Centered Medical Homes. NMHCs are touted as the "first line of defense" for many of the country's uninsured or underinsured—where nurse practitioners and other advanced practice registered nurses can provide a broad array of care to those, many living in poverty, who otherwise would not have access to primary care, including health promotion and disease prevention.
All eight clinics are members of the National Nursing Centers Consortium (NNCC), a member of the Champion Nursing Council.
Included in this group is the Eleventh Street Family Health Services of Drexel University, which is featured in a Center to Champion Nursing in America video on the role of nurses in providing community-based primary care in a team setting.
Best regards,
