Message from Florida Council of Advance Practice Nurses PAC
Posted almost 14 years ago by Stanley F Whittaker
As we prepare for another legislative session I would like to reflect on the great amount of progress CAP-PAC has made. We, the members of CAP-PAC, have grown in a little over a year from a small group of five ARNPs into a group of several hundred strong ARNPs and advocates for health care access.
In just one year we have accomplished the following:
Obtained Federal Trade Commission Ruling advocating for removal of barriers to ARNPs
- Appointed State Affiliate for American College of Nurse Practitioners
- Group Members American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
- Partnered with AANP to help other states obtain FTC rulings
Testified to Governor Scott's Transition team about ARNP barriers
- Contributed to the OPPAGA report showing ARNPS can save 300 million annually
- Spearheaded ARNP testimony around state to Senator Haridopolis' Medicaid Tour
- Obtained state proclamation for ARNP week
Obtained endorsement from League of Women Voters and other organizations
- Partnered with National AARP and the Center to Champion Nursing
- Spearheaded efforts to testify at Medicaid Reform hearings around state
- Lead efforts to protest Medicaid reform bill language to CMS and AHQA
Met with every member of the Florida House and Senate health care committees
- Numerous Press releases in politically sensitive publications
- Recognition as a 501c4 nonprofit social welfare organization
- Organized state wide rallies that gained media attention in 6 out of 12 media markets
- Arranged for ARNP testimony on numerous bills
Our successful efforts in obtaining the Federal Trade Commission ruling served as a basis for 21 bills across the country to be passed in favor of ARNPs and aided other states to reach out and obtain favorable opinions from the FTC as well. That is a long list and we can be proud of.
Letters, emails, and calls along with our rally and weekly visits with members of the Florida Legislature have increased CAP-PAC's visibility. Several members of the legislature are now calling us for information on issues and many have expressed support of our efforts.
Recently we have been approached by one of the top lobbying firms in Tallahassee who would like to represent us. This firm uses and prefers Nurse Practitioners for their personal health care. This group has had a very successful session this year and has offered their services for a very reasonable rate. They want to help us change the status quo and improve access to health care.
In my opinion the addition of this very strong lobbying group will place us in a much better position to move legislation.
And so, I am asking you to please carefully consider making an investment in our future and join me by donating $ 25 or more a month to help us acquire this much needed lobbying group.
Let's make things happen in Florida.
