HB 1195: Baker Act Bill Passed We Need Your Help
Posted over 13 years ago by Stanley F Whittaker
From Jan Hess , Volusia Flager Advance Practice Nursing Council
House Bill 1195 sponsored by Representative Daphne Campbell was passed unanimously 01/17/2012. This bill will add all NPs to the list of individuals who can sign for involuntary commitment of patients. Susan Lynch spoke before the committee on its behalf relating a significant patient situation at a free clinic. FNA, FNPN, CAP-PAC all were present to support the bill and encourage Representatives on the Health and Human Services Access Subcommittee. It was a joy to sit in the audience and see this significant piece of legislature pass without opposition in this first committee hearing.
The bill will now go to the House's Judiciary Committee. We all need to email the Representatives on this committee. So please take a minute to email the members listed on the email sent to me by Susan Lynch. I am not sure why but the emails on Snyder and Swartz were returned as undeliverable. Will try to find the correct emails and post.
I also took the time to notify friends and family of the need for emails as well. As Susan states, emails do make a difference especially when they are from not only nurses but the general public.
