CAP-PAC Efforts Get Medicaid Language Changed!

Posted over 13 years ago by Stanley F Whittaker

WE DID IT!

SB 730 was signed into law this week and includes changes to the Medicaid waiver's primary care initiative.

Specifically the waiver had specified that patients must choose a physician as their primary care provider. The new language changes the word physician to provider.

The bill's summary reads as follows: The bill changes a reference to primary care physician to primary care provider in the primary care initiative under the statewide Medicaid managed care program. The change clarifies that primary care may be provided by a health care practitioner other than a physician, such as an advanced registered nurse practitioner.

CAP-PAC worked tirelessly on this issue meeting with the Governor's staff, policy makers and key legislators to get this language changed.

Thank you to all who wrote letters to policy makers on this issue
