If you plan on speaking with Senator Gaetz about nursing issues and need material or advice please email Swhittaker@cap-pac.org or SLynch@cap-pac.org. Below are the times and locations for Senator Gaetz.
"Neighborhood Day"
Senator Don Gaetz will bring his Senate office to DeFuniak Springs on Thursday, September 27, 2012 for “Neighborhood Day.” From early morning until evening, the second-term Republican will meet one-on-one with residents, speak with business and civic leaders, local organizations and walk door-to-door.
“Neighborhood Day” begins at 7:30 a.m. with Senator Gaetz live on WZEP 1460 AM with radio host Art Dees. Listeners can call in to ask the Senator questions at (850) 892-3158.
At 8:15 a.m., Gaetz will stop by the Life Enrichment Center for Seniors to visit and discuss the upcoming 2013 Legislative Session.
From 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and again from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Senator Gaetz will bring his Senate office to the Chautauqua Building, located at 96 Circle Drive. There, he'll meet individually with the citizens of DeFuniak Springs. As he has done during similar “Neighborhood Days” over the past six years, Gaetz wants to listen to whatever is on citizens' minds. Individuals having problems with state agencies are also invited to stop by. Constituents don't need an appointment, but can drop in at the Chautauqua Building and have a cup of coffee. However, if a specific time is desired, call 1-(866)-450-4DON toll-free from anywhere in Florida.
At 11:45 a.m., Gaetz will speak to members of the Walton Area Chamber of Commerce. Directly following, at 1:00 p.m., he will drop in to meet with students at the Resources for Human Development.
In the late afternoon, Gaetz will hit the streets of DeFuniak Springs, walking door-to-door to meet with residents in their own homes. Before his 2006 election to the Senate and since then, Gaetz has knocked on over 25,000 doors in Northwest Florida.
"The best ideas don't come from Washington or Tallahassee. All too often that's where the problems are," Gaetz said. "I learn so much from talking with people on their own doorsteps and sitting at their kitchen tables."
Gaetz’ current senate district includes Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton and Bay counties. However, based on the redistricting plans approved by the Florida Legislature and the Florida Supreme Court, Senator Gaetz’ newly drawn district will encompass the counties of Jackson, Washington, Holmes, Okaloosa, Walton and Bay after the November 2012 election.
Gaetz was elected to the Senate in 2006 following six years as Superintendent of Schools in Okaloosa County. Previously, he served on the Okaloosa County school board and was the first town chairman of Seaside in Walton County.
As a member of the Senate, Gaetz currently serves on several senate committees including the Senate Committee on Reapportionment, which he chairs. In addition, he serves on Transportation, Tourism and Economic Development Appropriations, Health Regulation, Banking and Insurance, Budget, Health and Human Services Appropriations, Rules, Rules Committee on Ethics and Elections and the Joint Legislative Budget Commission. He has been designated by his fellow senate colleagues to be the next President of the Senate beginning in November 2012.
